In-Construction (Phase I and II)
October 2007 - Fall 2009
MDOT Video Press Release for the reopening of Farm Lane
Construction update (Sept. 30, 2009):
Farm Lane and Service Road are now open! Please note, however, that there will be intermittent single-lane closures along Farm Lane, as well as sidewalk closures on the east side of Farm Lane until the final completion of the project.
More about the project:
The Farm Lane Underpasses project lowered Farm Lane under two railroad crossings: the Canadian National (CN) line just north of Service Road and the CSX line just north of the commuter lot (Lot 89) at the corner of Mt. Hope Road and Farm Lane. Eliminating the current at-grade railroad crossings on Farm Lane will increase safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists, and decrease response times for emergency vehicles. Lowering Farm Lane will also improve access along this main north/south route through MSU. Improved traffic flow will allow CATA buses to stay on schedule. The project is a joint partnership between the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and Michigan State University. MDOT is administering the design and construction of the project.
