This page provides detour routes for traffic on Michigan State University's main campus primarily due to construction projects. As projects progress and detour dates may change, we encourage you to visit this page often for the latest information. Maps of motorist detours are featured below, and written descriptions of pedestrian detours can be found here.
Consider riding a bicycle on campus to quickly navigate construction zones and find convenient parking spots. Stop by the MSU Bikes Service Center to lease or buy a bicycle or to get your own bike repaired.
Special note: The Michigan Department of Transportation has a number of area construction projects scheduled for 2013. MDOT has a brochure (PDF) available on its website with the current information regarding those 2013 Lansing-area projects. The City of East Lansing also has a construction website with project and detour information.
MDOT ROAD WORK UPDATE:
M-43/Grand River Avenue
On Saturday, June 15, all traffic on M-43, between Michigan Avenue and Bogue Street, will return to their normal lane configuration as paving on the westbound side of M-43 wraps up a week early. Eastbound and westbound M-43 traffic will again be open in each direction with access returned to all side streets.
Crews had four weeks, or 26 days, to complete all paving along the boulevard section of Grand River Avenue and the contractor was able to complete the work in half that amount of time.
Periodic single lane closures will still be needed on M-43 between Michigan Avenue and Bogue Steet, for brick paver installation, traffic signal work, final pavement markings, and final slope restoration.
Construction also continues on M-43, east of Bogue Street, for sidewalk and water main work.
M-143/Michigan Avenue
On Monday, June 17, the Beal Street exit to Michigan Avenue will close for approximately 7 days so crews can complete the final paving at Michigan Avenue.
Northbound Beal Street will be closed starting at West Circle Drive. Access to southbound Beal Street from Michigan Avenue will be maintained up to West Circle Drive.
The closure at Beal Street is weather dependent.
